Halloween Hissing Roaches are relatives to the common Madagascar Hissing Roaches. They get their name from the distinct Orange/Black markings they have running the length of their body. Listing is for nymphs, about 1/2" to 1" in length.

INFO:

Halloween hissers max out at about 2' as adults, making them smaller than other hissing roaches. Juveniles (nymphs) are a black or brown color and they develop their stripes as they grow.

Halloween hissers are quite tame and fun to handle! They will occasionally let out a hiss if disturbed, but over all they are very docile when compared to some of their larger counterparts. They can and will climb the walls of their bins. Ours enjoy hanging out on the air vents in their bins.

HOUSING:

We recommend using a fairly large enclosure to allow your Hissers ample room to grow, hide, and breed. We use 37qt containers (sold separately, under "Supplies"). We provide our hissers several pieces of cork bark flats, sphagnum moss, decomposing wood, and leaf litter. They are provided a small piece of carrot weekly and have a small dish with roach chow. They also enjoy fish flakes as a source of protein. We also have a wet side and a dry side in each bin. This allows the insects to self-regulate according to their needs. We cohabitate our hissers with isopods and springtails, but its not required.

Hissers can climb smooth surfaces such as plastic/glass, so its important to use a bin that is secure, babies can squeeze out of tiny gaps (our bins are escape proof).
